Most people look at common household items and think nothing of it. But truly creative thinkers can repurpose ordinary objects for more effective uses. We’re surrounded by things we can utilize in many more ways than we’re used to. Bright Side found some very unexpected uses for everyday things — just look how they simplify life!

You can put a small amount of the ointment on a cotton ball and place it in your ear to soothe the pain of an earache. Just don’t push it in as deep as you can! And remember, the VapoRub only helps for pain, so if you have an infection, you’ll still need the proper medication to treat it.

  • This party staple can actually be used as a measuring cup. Those lines aren’t just there for decoration but to designate different amounts of liquids.

    Noxzema works wonderful on sunburns. put a lot on and it will sooth the burn and help keep your skin from drying out to the point it itches.
    Asorbin Jr. works well on insect bites.

  5. If you can find the 2oz solo cups,,Take a string of 50 or 100 Christmas lights ,poke a hole in the same amount of cups and insert over the lights. There great for party’s or camping.

  13. After cleaning and drying, ketchup bottles work well for storing sugar for your coffee. It prevents making a mess on your counter top since the needed amount can be squeezed into the cup.

  18. Binder clips for holding open books on the elliptical machine at the gym. Also I use them to close frozen veg bags, chip bags, etc. I hang kale and other produce in my budgie's cage with the clips as well. There are all sizes for different needs.

  19. Vick’s is a great moisturizer for dry feet. First soak your feet in some warm water with epsom salt for at least 20 minutes. If you have calluses or rough patches on your feet squirt a little cuticle remover on a pumice stone and gently scrub your problem areas. Rinse your feet and pat them dry. Slather Vick’s on your feet, and cover each foot using disposable clear shower/conditioning caps, plastic produce bags, or plastic wrap. Put socks on over the plastic, and leave them on overnight or for at least two hours. You’ll be amazed by the results! Tips: Generic vapor rub works just as well, and it’s much cheaper. It will be hard to walk with the vapor rub, plastic, and socks on your feet, so be careful and have everything that you’ll need close by. If you want to take it up a notch and make your feet even softer, add some mouthwash with benzoic acid to the water before you soak your feet. Your feet will not only feel super soft because of the benzoic acid, but nice and tingly from the minty mouthwash. You can buy vapor rub, epsom salt foot soak, mouthwash with benzoic acid, and clear plastic caps all from Dollar Tree. Summer ready feet for under $4!

  21. Thank you for so many different helpful tips. I never thought of the Vapo rub for an ear ache. As for the olive olive, my family has always used it as a help for ear aches. Just pour a bit onto a teaspoon, light a match under it to warm it up, then place it on a cotton ball, then into your ear. It helps every time.

  25. Don't use ice directly on burnt skin. Because the extreme cold will further damage the skin, making it harder for skin to repair. Wrap a small towel around the ice first.

  26. Keep a plastic bag with a cup of all purpose white flour in your refrigerator for burns. Just stick the burned appendage into the cold flour for about 10 minutes. No more pain, no blisters, or even a mark. If you grab something hot and burn the palm of your hand, immediately clap your hands a few times as hard as you can. That can also prevent blistering. Unless maybe if you've stuck your hand into molten lava, then it doesn't work.
