How to Stop Sweaty Armpits?

Although it is one of the things our body does to help us, no one likes sweaty armpits, especially their smell. When our body heats up – from exercise, stress, weather, etc., our skin sweats to cool the body down and prevents overheating.

Did you know that females between the age of 18-34 are particularly affected by underarm sweat? 77% of U.S. women are embarrassed by it. There are also some social implications on sweaty armpits – some women feel self-conscious and limited when meeting new people, some feel unattractive and even depressed as a result of their condition.

Excessive armpit sweating is a common disorder. You are not alone or abnormal!  Controlling and preventing armpit sweat is important to social life, comfort and your hygiene. Luckily, there are some ways to minimize or prevent this condition.

1. Stay hydrated.

Excessive sweating can be caused by dehydration. Proper hydration is essential for our body health. When we sweat, we are losing water out of our body, and that water needs to be replaced.

Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink water. Carry a water bottle with your during the day to stay hydrated all day. Besides water, you can drink vegetable juices or herbal teas. Avoid drinking alcohol or caffeine because they are dehydrating.

2. Shower

With sweaty armpits comes something far more socially unacceptable – body odor. Because of that, make sure to shower at least once a day. Regular showers (or baths) lowers the temperature of the body, reducing the production of sweat. Also, regular showering helps keep the number of bacteria under your armpits in check.

3. Shave/Trim armpits

It’s time to shave or trim your armpits regularly! Removing body hair is nothing new and every woman should include it into her daily routine.

Shaving makes a huge difference -antiperspirant is more effective, armpits are easier to clean, there is less odor and skin can ‘breathe’.

4. Lighter/thinner fabric

Wear clothes made of natural materials, such as cotton. Lighter fabric can help prevent sweaty armpits by allowing your armpits to breathe. Also, it’s recommended to wear baggy clothes.

Avoid polyester and nylon because these materials restrict airflow and increase armpit sweating.

5.  Change your diet.

Avoiding certain foods can significantly help control sweaty armpits. Reduce the intake of spicy foods, garlic and onions. These types of foods can increase the amount of sweat produce and contribute to body odor.

6. Wear an Anti-perspirant.

To help control armpit sweating and to prevent potential for embarrassing odor, buy an antiperspirant. Antiperspirant works best when it gets directly on the skin so make sure you shave your armpits regularly.

Antiperspirants and deodorants aren’t the same thing. Antiperspirants contain ingredients designed to stop perspiration, while deodorants help to cover up odors. Make it a daily habit and apply it before leaving the house.

Sweaty armpits aren’t medically dangerous but they can be very embarrassing. With this easy 6 tips, you’ll be able to prevent or minimize nasty, sweaty armpits and start living ‘normally’ again.
