This year has already been a pretty huge one for change (and it’s not even over yet). Kyle and I moved from Maine to Florida to Missouri in under 6 months. Just about everything in our daily routines turned upside down. In order to feel healthy, I’ve had to develop completely new habits, like getting out of the house every day, using a daily meditation app, and developing a new plan for taking care of my skin. I’ve always had acne-prone oily combination skin, but above all else, it’s sensitive. To be specific, it doesn’t like different climates. So, yes, I’ve pretty much tortured it by going from cold to hot to medium temperature. I wanted to do something drastic yet simple to improve my irritated skin, so I decided to try Olay’s 28 Day Challenge.
I replaced my go-to moisturizer with an Olay moisturizer with sunscreen (Olay Total Effects Moisturizer with SPF 15) and my go-to eye cream with an Olay eye cream (Olay Eyes Deep Hydrating Eye Gel) for 28 days. To be specific, I applied Olay Total Effects Moisturizer with SPF 15 in the morning and Olay Eyes Deep Hydrating Eye Gel in both the mornings and evenings. Here’s a breakdown of what happened.
Day 1 of the Olay 28 Day Challenge
On day 1, my skin was red, irritated, and oily. My first impression of Olay Total Effects Moisturizer with SPF 15 was that it was light, fragrance-free, and jam packed with vitamins. I also liked that it had SPF 15 in it to help protect against the sun (aka the #1 cause of visible skin aging). To be honest, even though every esthetician has told me that moisturizers are crucial to having good skin, I’ve never worn one daily before. I’m already oily enough as it is, so I never want to add extra oil on top of my natural oil. Because this Olay moisturizer with sunscreen was so light, I didn’t feel uneasy about wearing makeup on top of it.
My first impression of Olay Eyes Deep Hydrating Eye Gel was that it tingled a bit when I first applied it. I’ve always believed that tingles indicate a product is working, so I had high hopes for its efficacy. I placed a small amount around the eye area (under my eyes, in the outer corners, on my eyelids) and smoothed until thoroughly absorbed. While reading the box, I noticed it has a fast-absorbing hyaluronic acid formula with peptides, pro-vitamin b5, and cucumber extract. It’s clinically-tested, as well, so I had no negative thoughts about its ingredients.
Day 14 of the Olay 28 Day Challenge
After two solid weeks of exclusively using these products, I was already noticing a pretty dramatic difference. My skin felt hydrated throughout the day, and I noticed that my skin tone was looking much more even. I felt less oily, too, which was probably the biggest plus. I also noticed a subtle difference in my fine lines and wrinkles, especially around my eyes. I’m usually prone to dark under-eye circles, and I hadn’t noticed any since using the Olay Eyes Deep Hydrating Eye Gel.
Day 28 of the Olay 28 Day Challenge
I took these pictures on the last day of the challenge. On day 28, my skin felt/looked pretty darn healthy. My fine lines and wrinkles were less noticeable, and my skin tone looked the most even it has looked in years. I also noticed my skin was less oily and super soft. For someone who’s never had great skin, it’s nice to finally see a healthy glow on your face. I guess that’s what happens when your skin stops punishing you!
I should also note that I really like simplicity. The more simple the skincare routine, the better… and you can’t get much simpler than the 28 Day Challenge. If I can get 7 signs of visibly healthy skin in one Olay moisturizer with sunscreen, why in the world would I use anything else? Above all else, this challenge proved that I don’t need 8 different luxury beauty products to feel beautiful. Olay really isn’t kidding when they say they outperform prestige products, you guys!
Olay 28 Day Challenge Recap
Here’s a side-by-side look of my skin from day 1 through day 28. I’m only wearing light mascara and have filled in my eye brows in all three photos.
