Independence Day is only a few weeks away, and I don’t know about y’all, but a relaxing 4th of July poolside barbecue can easily rank as my favorite party of the year. The food, the drinks, the cheesy God Bless the USA playlist– I just love it all. Kyle and I have been living in a downtown apartment for the past year, but we’re about to move to an adorable old cottage with the cutest little backyard, and I’m thrilled that the 4th will be the first party we host at our new place! We’ll still be in the midst of unpacking, so finger foods and simple 4th of July snacks, like this patriotic fruit platter, will have to suffice. I actually saw something similar on Pinterest when I was in college, and I’ve made one pretty much every Memorial Day and Independence Day since.
Not only do most (I said most) guests appreciate a healthier alternative to cherry pie, this patriotic fruit platter is fun, festive, and takes 5 minutes to throw together. You can also make substitutions as necessary. For example, you can sub out cherries for raspberries, blueberries for grapes, or yogurt-covered pretzels for cheese cubes. The combinations are endless. Just find a tray that’s big enough to serve 8-10 people (I love this galvanized serving tray!) and some festive bowls for leftover fruit.
